The Community development training institute uyole, commonly referred to as CDTI UYOLE or Chuo cha Community development training institute uyole.
CDTI-Uyole is a government owned institution under the Ministry of Community Development, Gender and Children. The Institute started offering short courses concerning Rural Development Trainings since 1971. In the year 2001 the Institute was transformed to Folk Development College (FDC) for the purpose of offering Technical Skills in different Fields; such as Mechanical, Tailoring, Electrical Installation, Masonry, and Home Economics. The certificate course in Community development was officially inaugurated at Uyole Community Development Training Institute in 2008.
The Certificate Course in Community Development focus towards offering knowledge and skills in Community Development to a cadre of Community Development practitioners who shall be responsible among others responsibilities for organizing groups of people and communities to participate in Development Programmes at grass root level. Generally, graduates in these programmes are designed to be equipped with quality knowledge and ability to enable them to become the leading change agents who will successful collaborate with other extension staff to spearhead development at grass root levels. Most of the Certificate holders are expected to work in public, private organizations and civil societies.
CDTI-Uyole and the other CDTI’s are managed and coordinated by the Ministry of Community Development, Gender and Children, which is headed by the Permanent Secretary who is assisted by various Directors. The CDTI’s falls under the supervision of the Director of Community Development who is assisted by an Assistant Director-Training Department. In addition, each CDTI has its own management that is headed by a Principal who is assisted by a Vice-Principal and heads of department and sections. Students are represented and involved in decision making through students representatives who are elected democratically by their fellow students each academic year. On the other hand CDTI-Uyole is also operating under NACTE Standards.
From 2008 the institute started to offer long term courses (certificate in community development) which took two years. However in 2013 changes was made from two years course to one year course for the technical certificate of community development (NTA L4). These changes resulted to syllabus review; many changes were incorporated as major prerequisite for National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) requirements which is the Accreditation Regulatory Authority for institute accreditation. The changes included, review of modules, shifting from term system to semester system, certificate to be offered in National Technical Award (NTA) levels i.e. level 4 and level 5; each level having two semesters.
