This is a brief description of the Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College business. The Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College started in 1993 at Memorial Street in Moshi urban called Kilimanjaro Technical and Commercial Training Centre. The Kilimanjaro Technical and Commercial Training Centre was not registered yet under any education authority till 1998 when it was registered under VETA as a Technical College and VETA’s examination centre.
The Kilimanjaro Technical and Commercial Training Centre changed its business brand name to Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College in 2014. The change from Kilimanjaro Technical and Commercial Training Centre to the Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College earned a formal official registration from the ministry of education early 2014.
Before the change of the name from Kilimanjaro Technical and Commercial Training Centre to the Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College, the centre had already transferred its business location in 2011 from Memorial Street Moshi to Bomang’ombe Moshi in Hai district for sound economic reasons.
The management KMTC decided to have a teaching course from the year 2013. The Teachers college department was registered under the ministry of education and vocational training on May 2014 (Registration number C.U. 139). Later on the college was registered with the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) in the year 2015 (Registration number TLF/081).
Bomang’ombe town is situated in the middle place between Arusha region and Kilimanjaro region. This makes the area an easy capture of targeted potential customers from these two rich northern regions of Tanzania. This has doubled students from Arusha to the Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College while maintaining similar level of enrollment of students from Kilimanjaro region.
Bomang’ombe has also enough arable land and available land resources for expansion and development of college. In a very short run after its migration the Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College has built many buildings including the laboratory for engineering, library building for further private study as well as construction of the dining hall. The Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College has finished the construction of playing grounds to cater for extra curriculum activities for talented and self exercising students.
The Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College started its technical education provision with only three (3) courses in electrical engineering, auto electrical and motor vehicle mechanics courses. The college had an enrollment of about seven (7) students in its first year of operation as a technical college. The number of students who are in progress currently is seventy (70) which makes it ten (10) times the starting number of students.
The Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers’ College is open on any normal working days from Monday to Friday starting at 07:00 hours (am) to 17:00hours (pm). The Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College is a co-education institution. The college has hostel rooms for far distant student but also offers the daytime education to students who will to study from home.
There are two (2) number of intake per year at the Kilimanjaro Modern Teachers College. The first intake starts in January targeting the form four and standard seven leavers in technical education. The second intake starts from July to August for teachers department in certificate and diploma courses.
