What are MUHAS entry requirements?
MUHAS Entry requirements are formal criteria you must meet in order to be considered for a degree course you’re applying to at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).
These criteria are set by the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, to determine whether you’re capable of meeting its objectives. This is based on relevant or similar skills, knowledge and ability you’ve demonstrated in previous qualifications, exams and assessments – see below the full list of entry requirements you might need to meet, for a given course at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).

A. Programmes in the School of Medicine
1. Master of Science (MSc) Super-specialization degree programmes in the following fields:-
a) Cardiology

Eligibility for MSc Cardiology:
(i) Holder of MMed degree in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health of this University or its predecessor with good academic and professional conduct.
(ii) Holder of a degree equivalent to MMed degree in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health from other recognized universities with good academic and professional conduct.
Eligibility for MSc Haematology and Blood Transfusion:
(i) Holder of MMed degree of this university or its predecessor with good academic and professional conduct.
(ii) Holder of a degree equivalent to MMed degree from other recognized universities with good academic and professional conduct.
Eligibility for MSc Nephrology:
(i) Holders of MMed degree in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health of this University or its predecessor with good academic and professional conduct.
(ii) Holder of a degree equivalent to MMed degree in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health from other recognized universities with good academic and professional conduct.
Eligibility for MSc Neurology:
(i) Holder of MMed degree in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health of this University or its predecessor with good academic and professional conduct.
(ii) Holder of a degree equivalent to MMed degree in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health from other recognized universities with an good academic and professional conduct.
Eligibility for MSc Respiratory Medicine:
(i) Holder of MMed degree of this University or its predecessor in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health with good academic and professional conduct.
(ii) Holders of a degree equivalent to MMed degree in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health from other approved universities, with good academic and professional conduct.
Eligibility for MSc Medical Gastroenterology and Hepatology:
(i) Any holder of MMed degree in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health of this University or its predecessor with good academic and professional conduct.
(ii) Holders of a degree equivalent to MMed degree in Internal Medicine or Paediatrics and Child Health from other approved universities, with good academic and professional conduct.
Eligibility for MSc Surgical Gastroenterology and Hepatology:
(i) Holder of MMed Surgery of this University or its predecessor with good academic and Professional conduct.
(ii) Holders of a degree equivalent to MMed Surgery degree from other recognized universities, with good academic and professional conduct.
Eligibility for MSc Neurosurgery:
(i) Holder of MMed degree in General Surgery of this University or its predecessor with good academic and professional conduct.
(ii) Holders of a degree equivalent to MMed General Surgery from other recognized universities, with good academic and professional conduct.
Eligibility for MSc Urology:
(i) Holder of MMed degree in General Surgery of this University or its predecessor with good academic and professional conduct.
(ii) Holder of a degree equivalent to MMed General Surgery from other recognized universities with good academic and professional conduct.
2. Master of Science (MSc) Programmes:

Eligibility for MSc Anatomy:
(i) Holders of the MD and DDS degrees of this University with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(ii) Graduates from other universities who have been admitted to the status of Doctor of Medicine and DDS or equivalent degree, provided they have a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(iii) Holders of BSc in Human Anatomy from recognized universities with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(iv) Holders of BVM or its equivalent from a recognized university with a credit or distinction in anatomy and a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
Eligibility for MSc Biochemistry:
(i) Graduates with MD, DDS, BPharm, BScRTT, BMLS of this or other university with a minimum GPA of 2.7 upon graduation.
(ii) Graduates from other recognized universities who have completed their studies and earned BVM or equivalent and who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 upon graduation.
(iii) Holders of BSc in Biochemistry,3 Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biology or
Zoology, Biotechnology, and Microbiology with a minimum grade of B in Biochemistry and cumulative GPA of 2.7 upon graduation.
Eligibility for MSc Clinical Pharmacology:
(i) Holders of the M.D, DDS, BPharm.and BSc Nursing degrees of this University with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(ii) Graduates from other Universities who have been admitted to the status of MD, DDS, BPharm and BSc Nursing or equivalent, provided they have a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(iii) Holders of BSc in Pharmacology from recognized universities with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(iv) Holders of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) or its equivalent from a recognized university with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
Eligibility for MSc Clinical Psychology:
(i) Holders of BSc in Psychology, Counseling Psychology or equivalent of this or other recognized Universities with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above.
(ii) A ‘B” or higher grade in psychology will be an added advantage.
Eligibility for MSc Microbiology and Immunology:
(i) Possession of the MD, DDS, BSc N, B.Pharm, BMLS, BSc EHS, of this University with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher at graduation.
(ii) Graduates from other Universities who have been admitted to the status of MD, DDS, B.Pharm, BMLS, BSc EHS BSc N or equivalent, provided they have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher upon graduation.
(iii) Holders of BSc in Microbiology, BSc Applied Microbiology, BSc in Food Science and Technology and Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from recognized Universities with cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above and with overall B grade or above in Microbiology.
Eligibility for MSc Physiology
(i) Holders of the MD, DDS, BPharm, BMLS, BScRTT and BScN degrees of this University with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher upon graduation.
(ii) Graduates from other Universities who have been admitted to the status of MD, DDS, B Pharm, BMLS, BScRTT and BScN or equivalent, provided they have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher upon graduation.
(iii) Holders of BSc. in Physiology from recognized Universities with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above.
(iv) Holders of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) or its equivalent from a recognized University with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher upon graduation.
3. Master of Medicine (MMed) Programmes in:
(a) Anaesthesiology

Eligibility for MMed programmes:
(i) A holder of a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree of this University or its Predecessor with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(ii) A medical graduate of a recognized University who has been admitted to the status of Doctor of Medicine, with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(iii) A minimum of TWO YEARS post internship of working experience bythe time of applying.
B. Programmes in the School of Dentistry Master of Dentistry (MDent) in:
(a) Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
(b) Restorative Dentistry
(c) Community Dentistry
(d) Paediatric Dentistry
Eligibility for MDent programmes:
(i) A holder of a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree of this University with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(ii) A graduate of a recognized University who has been admitted to the status of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level
(iii) A minimum of TWO YEARS Post Internship working experience by the time of applying.
C. Programmes in the School of Pharmacy
1. Master of Science (MSc) in:
(a) Pharmaceutical Management.
2. Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) in:
(a) Industrial Pharmacy
(b) Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy
(c) Medicinal Chemistry
(d) Pharmaceutical Microbiology

Eligibility for MSc Pharmaceutical Management and MPharm programmes:
(i) Applicants with a BPharm degree from a recognized University with at least a GPA of 2.7.
(ii) Each applicant must satisfy all the general requirements set out under the regulations for a Master’s degree of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences as listed in the University Prospectus.
(iii) A minimum of TWO YEARS Post Internship of working experience by the time of applying.
D. Programmes in the School of Nursing: Master of Science (MSc) in:
(a) Nursing Critical Care and Trauma
(b) Nursing Mental Health
(c) Midwifery and Women’s Health
Eligibility for MSc Nursing Critical Care and Trauma and Mental Health programmes:
(i) Applicants with a BSc Nursing degree with a GPA of 2.7 of this University or its predecessor.
(ii) A graduate from a recognized university who has been admitted to the status of BSc Nursing degree or its equivalent with a GPA of 2.7.
(iii) A minimum of TWO YEARS Post Internship of working experience by the time of applying.
Eligibility for MSc Midwifery and Women’s Health programme:
(i) Applicants with a BSc Nursing degree or BSc Midwifery degree from MUHAS with a GPA of at least 2.7
(ii) Applicants with a BSc Nursing degree or BSc Midwifery degree from a recognized University with a GPA of at least 2.7
(iii) Applicants must satisfy all the general requirements set out under the regulations for a Master’s degree of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences.
(iv) A minimum of TWO YEARS Post Internship of working experience by the time of applying
E. Programmes in the School of Public Health and Social Sciences:
(a) Master of Medicine in Community Health (MMed Community Health)
(b) Master of Public Health (MPH) – Regular Track

NB:
*Applicants for MSc Behaviour Change (MSc BC) must be prepared to change to other available programs in the school WITHIN 3 WEEKS after the opening of the university if the number of applicants does not meet our operational threshold
**A limited number of scholarships will be available for successful applicants, on a competitive basis, for the Master of Bioethics (MBE) and MPH (Distance Learning).
***For MSc-HIM, students will spend part of their academic trainings in South Africa, German, and Tanzania. Trips and stay in German and South Africa will be funded by DAAD.
Eligibility for MMed in Community Health: –
(i) An applicant who has Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with a minimum GPA of
2.7 at undergraduate level and complies with the University admission regulations.
(ii) Medical graduate from any other recognized university who has been admitted to the status of Doctor of Medicine with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level and complies with the University admission regulations.
(iii) A candidate for the MMed (Community Health) may register for the course not less than one year after the award of the MD degree or its equivalent.
Eligibility for Master of Public Health (MPH) – Regular & Executive Tracks
(i) The programme is open to applicants with or without a medical degree with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(ii) A minimum of TWO YEARS Post Internship of working experience by the time of applying.
Eligibility for Master of Science in Tropical Disease Control (MSc-TDC)
(i) The programme is open to applicants with or without a medical degree with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(ii) Applicants without a medical degree should have a first degree in Biology or related subjects. The programme provides training in Epidemiology and Parasitology of Tropical Diseases.
Eligibility for Master of Arts in Health Policy and Management (MA-HPM)
(i) Holders of a first degree in Medicine, Dental Surgery, Pharmacy, Environmental Health Sciences or Nursing from this university or its predecessor or any other recognized university with cumulative GPA of not less than 2.7.
(ii) Graduates from other recognized universities with GPA of at least 2.7 in Sociology, Anthropology, Health Statistics, Demography, Biology, Food Sciences, Human Nutrition, Veterinary Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Information Sciences and other related fields.
Eligibility for Master of Science in Applied Epidemiology
(i) Graduates from any recognized University in the fields of Medicine, Dentistry, Laboratory Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Pharmacy, Environmental Health Sciences, Nursing or any other health related fields of study, with a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(ii) Graduates in health related fields of study such as statistics, demography, biology, food science and public health may also apply provided they are graduates from recognized Universities and have a minimum GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
(iii) Graduates should have a minimum of two years health related working experience.
Eligibility for Master of Science in Epidemiology and Laboratory Management
(i) Graduates from any recognized University with a first degree in the fields of Laboratory Sciences, Medical Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Biological sciences or any other laboratory related fields of study with cumulative GPA of not less than 2.7.
(ii) Graduates should have a minimum of two years health related working experience.
Eligibility for Master of Science in Medical Parasitology and Entomology (MSc PE)
(i) Basic degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and Veterinary Medicine with a minimum GPA of 2.7.
(ii) Graduates from any other recognized university in Zoology and Biology- related fields and cumulative GPA of 2.7 and above.
Eligibility for Master of Science in Behavioral Change Communication for Health- (MSc. BCC)
(i) Graduates from MUHAS in BSc EHS, BSc N, MD, DDS with a cumulative GPA of
2.7 or higher at graduation.
(ii) Graduates from other recognized Universities in BSc EHS, BScN, MD, DDS, LLB, BSc (Ed), BA (Ed), BA (Econ.), BA (Soc.), BSc. (Food Science and Technology) and BA (Pol. Scs.) with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher at graduation.
(iii) Graduates should have a minimum of two years working experience
Eligibility for Master of Science in Behavior Change (MSc. BC)-Evening Track
(i) Graduates from MUHAS in BSc EHS, BSc N, MD, DDS with a cumulative GPA of
2.7 or higher at graduation.
(ii) Graduates from other recognized Universities in BSc EHS, BScN, MD, DDS, LLB, BSc (Ed), BA (Ed), BA (Econ.), BA (Soc.), BSc (Food Science and Technology) and BA (Pol. Scs.) with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher at graduation
(iii) Graduates should have a minimum of two years working experience.
Eligibility for Master of Science in Environmental and Occupational Health (MSc EOH)
(i) Holders of a BSc in Environmental Health Sciences with a minimum GPA of or higher.
(ii) Holders of a first degree in Science related subjects (BSc Env. Eng., BSc Chemical and Processing Eng, BSc General etc. with a minimum GPA of 2.7 or higher and a relevant background in environmental and occupational health professional experience or training.
(iii) A minimum of TWO YEARS work experience is an added advantage.
Eligibility for Master of Bioethics (MBE)
(i) Graduates in health related fields from any recognized university with at least GPA of 2.7.
(ii) Mid-career applicants e.g. lawyers, administrators, social workers, veterinarians, researchers, industrialists, regulators and other professionals engaged in health associated fields with at least GPA of 2.7 at undergraduate level.
Eligibility for Master of Public Health (MPH) – Distance Learning programmes
(i) A graduate from any recognized University in health related fields of study that
include but not limited to medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, radiology, laboratory sciences, midwifery, sociology, anthropology, health statistics, health service administration, environmental health sciences, demography, biology, food science, epidemiology and health information sciences.
(ii) Applicants must have scored at least a GPA of 2.7 in their undergraduate degrees.
Eligibility for MSc- Health Information Management (MSc-HIM)
(i) Applicants should be professionals with a university degree or equivalent level and must have at least two years of work experience in the health sector.
(ii) A graduate from any other recognized University in all health related fields of study that include medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, radiology, laboratory sciences, midwifery, environmental health, sociology, anthropology, health statistics, demography, food sciences, veterinary sciences, nutrition, information sciences, IT, informatics, computer sciences, business studies, health service administration, epidemiology and other related fields are also eligible for selection in this programme.
(iii) A GPA of at least 2.7 at undergraduate degree level
F. Programme in the Institute of Traditional Medicine:
Master of Science in Traditional Medicines Development (MSc Trad Med Development)
Eligibility:
(i) Graduates from recognized Universities with BPharm or its equivalent, BSc degree in Chemistry, Zoology, or Botany as one of the major subjects or a degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Nutrition, or Chemical engineering.
(ii) A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above.
(iii) Each applicant must satisfy the entire general requirements set out under the regulation for a Master’s degree of the University. These regulations are listed in the university Prospectus.
