Get the UDSM 2026/2027 Prospectus: Courses, Fees & Entry Requirements

by Auc-finder
June 25, 2026
in Prospectus

A UDSM application can look simple from the outside: choose a course, fill the online form and wait for selection. In practice, the safest applicants do something different. They check the prospectus, programme page, entry requirements and fees together before they touch the application form.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, the University of Dar es Salaam prospectus page is the place to watch for the current PDF. At the moment, the page lists the Undergraduate Prospectus 2025/2026 and Postgraduate Prospectus 2025/2026 as the latest prospectus documents. Use those documents for early planning, but do not treat an old PDF as the final authority for the new intake.

This guide is written for the student who wants a realistic path: which courses to compare, what requirements usually block applicants, how fees are arranged, and which official links should be used when the 2026/2027 admission cycle is active.

The table below gives the practical position for applicants. It avoids fake download promises and shows where each resource fits in the admission journey.

Why the prospectus matters more at UDSM

UDSM is not a small single-field institution where most programmes follow one pattern. It is Tanzania’s oldest and biggest public university, with a wide academic spread across humanities, education, business, economics, law, science, ICT, engineering, social sciences, journalism, marine sciences and other specialised fields. That strength is also the reason applicants must read carefully.

Two programmes can sound close but lead to different academic units, different subject expectations and different fee categories. A student may also qualify generally for university admission but still miss a specific programme because the required subjects do not match. That is why the prospectus is not just a PDF to save on your phone. It is a filter for deciding whether a course is realistic for your background.

A serious applicant should use the document to answer four questions: Do I meet the general entry route? Do I meet the programme-level subjects? Can I afford the fee category? Am I applying through the correct portal and intake?

Courses offered: think by academic direction, not by course name alone

The official UDSM programme page is the best starting point for the current course list because it shows more than the programme name. It includes the field of study, programme type, college or unit and duration. Those details help you avoid choosing a course only because the title sounds attractive.

For example, a student interested in ICT should compare Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business Information Technology and related routes differently because the subject background and academic focus are not identical. A student interested in education should check teaching subjects and whether the route is arts-based or science-based. A student interested in business should compare commerce, accounting, economics, statistics and business-related options before deciding.

Applicant interestWhat to compare on the programme page
Arts, humanities and languagesSubject combination, college/unit, teaching or non-teaching direction, duration and fee band.
Business, economics and statisticsMathematics background, programme title, professional direction and academic unit.
Law, public administration and social sciencesWriting-heavy study route, entry subjects, career direction and fee category.
Engineering, ICT and scienceRequired science or mathematics subjects, duration, practical component and tuition band.
Education programmesTeaching subjects, arts/science route and the college or school hosting the programme.
Postgraduate studiesField relevance, GPA, mode of delivery, research expectations and direct university costs.

Entry requirements: the general rule is only the first gate

Many applicants ask, ‘How many points do I need?’ That is a useful question, but it is not enough. UDSM entry requirements should be read in two layers: the general minimum route and the additional programme requirement.

Direct entry applicants

Direct entry applicants normally use Form Six or equivalent qualifications. The official undergraduate requirements state that applicants should have CSEE or equivalent passes in five approved subjects, with three at credit level, before sitting for ACSEE or equivalent. For first-degree consideration, the page also refers to two principal level passes in appropriate subjects, with total points from three subjects not below 5 for arts programmes and 2 for science-based programmes.

That last phrase, ‘appropriate subjects’, is where many mistakes happen. A student may have enough points but still be weak for a science, engineering, ICT, economics or education route if the required subjects are missing. Read the programme requirement before adding the course to your application list.

Equivalent entry applicants

Equivalent-entry applicants should not assume that any diploma opens every degree. UDSM’s requirements refer to an appropriate equivalent diploma of not less than Second Class/Credit level or B grade from a registered college approved by the UDSM Senate. For diplomas classified into Upper and Lower classes, the requirement is an Upper Second Class or B+ average.

The key word is appropriate. A diploma holder should check whether the previous field genuinely connects to the intended degree. If the connection is weak, confirm through the programme page, OLAS instructions and the relevant regulatory guidance before paying the application fee.

Mature age and non-degree routes

The mature age route is not a shortcut for everyone. It is meant for qualified Tanzanian applicants who do not hold the usual direct or equivalent entry qualifications. The requirements include age and examination conditions, so applicants should read that section carefully rather than relying on second-hand advice.

For certificate, diploma and other non-degree routes, use UDSM-OLAS and the non-degree brochure when the application window is active. Non-degree programmes can change by cycle, regulatory approval and capacity, so do not depend on old screenshots.

Fee structure: what the numbers really mean

Fee planning at UDSM should start with the official fee page, not with a WhatsApp post. The undergraduate fee page lists tuition by hosting academic unit and programme group, with separate columns for Tanzanian and non-Tanzanian nationals. That separation matters because a fee copied from the wrong column can ruin a budget.

The latest undergraduate fee page shows several tuition bands. Arts, some education and related routes are listed from TSh 1,000,000 for Tanzanian students and USD 2,100 for non-Tanzanian students. Some social science, journalism, education science, commerce, engineering, natural science and agriculture-related groups appear in higher bands. Law, accounting and several ICT-related programmes are listed at TSh 1,500,000 for Tanzanians and USD 3,500 for non-Tanzanians, while Doctor of Medicine is listed at TSh 1,800,000 and USD 5,672.

Use those figures as a planning base, then confirm the current 2026/2027 fee position before payment. Tuition is also not the whole cost of university life. Students should budget for registration, student ID, examination-related costs, books, accommodation, meals, transport, fieldwork, practical training and personal needs.

How to use UDSM-OLAS correctly

UDSM-OLAS is the admission system for submitting applications, but it should not be the first page you open. First build your shortlist from the prospectus, programme page and fee page. Then use OLAS to register, choose the right application category, enter academic details and submit programme choices.

Use names exactly as they appear on your academic certificates. Keep the phone number and email active because admission communication and login recovery may depend on them. After payment, save the payment reference and any confirmation generated by the system.

Also remember that OLAS and ARIS are not the same thing. OLAS is for application and admission. ARIS is mainly for registered students managing academic records after admission.

Official links applicants should keep

Mistakes that cost applicants time

Do not choose a course by title only. Check the subjects, academic unit, duration and fee category. Do not use an old prospectus as final proof for a new intake. Do not pay through an individual who claims to help with admission. Do not confuse bachelor, diploma, certificate and postgraduate routes. Do not wait until the last day to create an OLAS account because payment or document errors take time to fix.

Another common mistake is choosing all programme options from the same highly competitive area without a realistic backup. A stronger application list usually balances ambition with eligibility. Pick programmes that match your subjects, your entry route and your financial plan.

Applicant checklist before submitting

Before you submitDone?
I have checked the latest prospectus page and noted whether the 2026/2027 PDF is available.
I have searched the programme page and confirmed the exact title, duration and academic unit.
I have compared my subjects or diploma background with the programme requirement.
I have checked the fee category for my programme and nationality.
I have confirmed the application fee inside UDSM-OLAS before payment.
I have saved my login details, payment reference and submitted application evidence.

UDSM attracts many applicants because of its academic reputation and wide programme range. That makes preparation important. Start with the prospectus page, compare programmes through the course list, read the requirements by entry route, check the fee category and then use UDSM-OLAS when you are ready. A clean application is not created by rushing; it is created by confirming every detail before you submit.
