I know how nerve-wracking it feels to wait for Form Five placements especially when your destination is Kagera, tucked away at the far north-western border of Tanzania. You’ve just finished CSEE in 2025, and you’re hoping to see your name on the TAMISEMI selection list soon.

Here’s what you need to know right now:

  • Are the 2026 TAMISEMI selections out? Not yet. Based on past patterns, the TAMISEMI Form Five selections are typically released between late May and early June. For example, in 2025 selections came out on June 6, while in 2024 they were released on May 30.
  • So when should you watch for it? Expect it to drop late May or early June 2026, with school reporting likely in July 2026.
  • Make sure your Selform MIS profile is updated before the May 10, 2026 deadline this is your final chance to change combinations or school preferences.

Be ready to check and act fast once the list is live.

Prestigious Government A-Level Schools in Kagera

Let me introduce you to some of Kagera’s most respected A-Level schools. These are familiar names to anyone who’s followed education in the Lake Zone.

  • Ihungo Secondary School (Boys), consistently among Kagera’s top-performing government schools.
  • Rugambwa Girls Secondary School , another star, known for its strong academic record.
  • Kahororo Secondary School , also in Bukoba, a solid institution with a good track record.

These schools offer competitive A-Level combinations: PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), HGL (History, Geography, Language), among others. If you’ve scored well in the relevant subjects, you stand a good chance.

How to View the Form Five Selection List for Kagera Region

Once TAMISEMI publishes the selections, here’s how to navigate the Selform portal step by step:

  • Step 1: Visit the official Selform MIS portal at selform.tamisemi.go.tz.
  • Step 2: Log in and look for the “First Selection 2026/2027” section once it’s live.
  • Step 3: Instead of searching by index number, choose “Search by Region” and select Kagera.
  • Step 4: Narrow it down further by selecting your Council/District options include Bukoba MC, Muleba, Karagwe, Ngara, Biharamulo, and Kyerwa. Then click the specific school to open the PDF list of selected students.

This method is faster and avoids daily server crashes from the portal. Make sure you download and save the PDF once you find your name.

You’re Posted to Kagera! Essential Travel & Survival Logistics

If your name is on the list, congratulations but now comes the real work: getting there and settling in. Kagera is beautiful but remote, and travel logistics can be tricky. Here’s what I’ve learned from students who’ve made the journey:

  • Download the “Joining Instructions” from the portal as soon as they’re available. These will show your school’s fee structure, uniform list, and exact reporting date.
  • Travel options:
    • Long-distance buses: These usually go through Kahama and Biharamulo before reaching Bukoba. Expect the journey from Dar or Dodoma to take up to two days with stops.
    • MV Victoria ferry: A popular and scenic alternative. You can take a bus to Mwanza, then hop on the ferry to Bukoba this is smoother and easier on your luggage.
  • Weather note: Kagera gets heavy rain, especially May to July. Make sure you pack a solid raincoat and waterproof shoes even if they’re not on your uniform list. It’ll make a huge difference during orientation and your first few days.

Don’t wait until the last minute to book travel; buses fill quickly and ferry schedules can change if the weather turns.

Alternative Pathways If You Missed the Kagera Selection

What if Kagera didn’t come through this time? Don’t lose hope. You have options:

  • Wait for the second TAMISEMI selection. Students who miss out initially often get allocations in the second round, depending on space and cancellations.
  • Look into private A-Level schools in the Lake Zone some are near Mwanza or Shinyanga and still affordable.
  • Consider diploma programs at NACTE-accredited colleges. If you miss out on A-Level entirely, a technical diploma could be an excellent backup.

Don’t see this as the end. There are still meaningful ways to continue your academic path.

What to Do Now

  • Update your Selform MIS profile by May 10, 2026 this includes combinations and school preferences.
  • Watch for selection announcements in late May or early June 2026.
  • Plan your travel early, especially if relying on buses or the ferry.
  • Budget for rain gear and other essentials even if they’re not listed in your joining instructions.
  • Have a backup plan ready like private schools or diploma programs just in case.

I’ve seen the relief on students’ faces when they finally get their placement sorted, especially those headed to places like Kagera who have to manage more hurdles. Keep your eyes on the portal, stay prepared, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help navigating this next step.
